You know, before we even get into a conversation about why successful companies employ successful individuals – and what you can do to help your staff become more motivated - I should perhaps first introduce myself. So let me explain. One black day more than a decade ago, someone called me a “guru” - and to be frank, the label appalled me.
Why?
Because I’ve seen too many people give their power away to both management and spiritual gurus - and that’s absolutely the last thing that I want to be associated with. I love to focus my energy on inspiring people to reach their full potential - especially within the corporate arena. The point, really, is to be your own guru…
Sadly, most people go to work for the “money at the end of the month”, but as you’re about to see, when people have their own personal reason “why”, their motivation levels go through the roof…

It all began with a pilot project I ran with one of the four high street banks. I’d been brought in as an executive coach and I’d been given a team of 15 business managers to work with.
The value of the development programme was to be measured over nine months. And in a bid
to be scientific, the bank had nominated a further 15
business managers as the “control group”. Each group had its fair share of high flyers, middle rankers and poor performers.
While some delegates used their sessions to deal with the emotional baggage that had been holding them back, most of them focused on discovering and reconnecting with their ‘personal purpose’. You can read about Mike’s story in the box below...

PS…I nearly forgot to finish the story! At the end of the nine-month pilot project with the bank, the control group saw their sales results improve by a pretty impressive 220% - but really excitingly, the 15 business managers who underwent the “Be Your Own Guru” programme had on average, seen their sales results improve over the 9-month period by a whopping 330%!
